Spoken Languages
The official language of Turkey is Turkish. The entire population speaks Turkish. In addition, different languages such as Lazuri, Kurdish are also spoken in the country according to the regions. The Georgian, Armenian and Cherkess populations living in the country also speak these languages. The most common foreign language in the country is English.
Ethnic Structure
The total ethnic population in Turkey is about 10%. About 90% of the community in Turkey, almost the entire majority of the community feel Turkish and identify as Turkish.
The only group with a ‘significant’ population in Turkey that will affect the ethnic structure is the Kurds with a ratio of about 7%. At this rate, the Kurdish population in Turkey today is about 5 million people.
Apart from the Kurds, there are only two groups whose population can be expressed as a ‘percentage’. These are Arabs and Zazas with a ratio of 1%. The populations of all the others are well below 1%. (Cherkess 0.34%, Lazs 0.27%, all others 0.41%)
